The Indian Army’s Red Shield Division, part of the Spear Corps, has initiated a sophisticated combat training program at a dedicated facility in Tripura. This initiative is aimed at equipping troops with the necessary skills to handle terrain-specific and asymmetric warfare, which is critical for enhancing India’s operational readiness in the Northeast region.
Major General S.S. Kartikeya, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division, recently assessed the multi-domain training regimen designed for the unique challenges posed by the region. The training modules include jungle warfare techniques, precision firing drills, drone deployment strategies, obstacle navigation, and simulated special operations tailored specifically to the complexities of the Northeast’s environment and the evolving security threats present.
The training facility has been strategically positioned to replicate the dense jungles and challenging topography of the area, allowing troops to cultivate situational awareness and adaptability crucial for counter-insurgency operations. This initiative comes at a time of heightened tensions and ongoing insurgent activity, particularly in states such as Manipur, where the Army has recently achieved significant success in weapon recovery efforts.
Officials highlighted that this comprehensive training program augments the longstanding efforts of the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School located in Mizoram, which has trained numerous soldiers and security personnel over the years. The integration of technology alongside tactical drills is a key component, aiming to enhance the survivability and effectiveness of troops operating in high-risk environments.
With a focus on resilience, discipline, and realistic combat scenarios, this training initiative underscores the Army’s proactive approach to maintaining peace and stability in the Northeast region. Furthermore, it aligns with the broader national strategy of strengthening internal security through modernized and regionally relevant military preparedness measures.
