A special felicitation ceremony was held at the Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal, where nine newly commissioned officers from Manipur were honored for their achievements in joining the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the Assam Rifles. This event took place on June 25 and marked a significant moment for the state, which has a rich history of contributing to the armed forces.
Among the honored officers, six are alumni of Sainik School Imphal, with one having a unique journey that began nearly two decades ago as a recruit in the Assam Rifles. The ceremony was presided over by Major General Ravroop Singh, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), who commended the young officers for their dedication and highlighted the sacrifices made by their families.
Of the nine officers, four were commissioned into the Gorkha Rifles, while two joined the Regiment of Artillery, and one each entered the Grenadiers, the Assam Rifles, and the Indian Air Force. Notably, Flying Officer Mayanglambam Lucky Singh, who was commissioned from the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana, drew attention for his inspiring story. He hailed from humble beginnings, born to an autorickshaw driver and a homemaker, symbolizing the power of perseverance and determination.
Another officer receiving special recognition was Assistant Commandant Hingba Graceson R., who exemplified dedication and service by transitioning from a recruit in the Assam Rifles in 2005 to being commissioned as an officer within the same force.
The officers inducted into the Gorkha Rifles include Lt. A. Naoten Meitei, Lt. Naoba Meitei, Lt. Ronendro Angam, and Lt. G. Ambrose Panmei. Meanwhile, Lt. M. Denish Singh and Lt. Thokchom Siddharth Singh joined the Grenadiers and the Regiment of Artillery, respectively, alongside Lt. Meghnath Soibam, who was also placed in the Regiment of Artillery.
This ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of these young officers but also underscored the growing representation of Manipur in the country’s defense services. Major General Singh noted that youths from Manipur continue to excel among the northeastern states in reaching officer ranks. He expressed that the success of these newly commissioned officers would inspire future generations and strengthen Manipur’s legacy as a vital contributor to India’s defense forces.
