Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Western Command, recently undertook an important visit to the Double Victory Brigade within the Vajra Corps stationed in Punjab. This visit aimed to assess the operational readiness of the brigade, which holds significant strategic value due to its proximity to the India-Pakistan border.
During the visit, the General Officer conducted a thorough review of the high standards of training maintained by the brigade. He expressed satisfaction with the preparedness of the mechanized units, which are vital components of the country’s frontline defense. The region, shaped by historical events such as the partition and the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war, continues to play a crucial role in India’s western defense strategy.
In addition to his operational assessments, Lt Gen Katiyar visited the Army Public School (APS) in Beas, Kapurthala. He was briefed on ongoing development projects at the school and encouraged the staff to prioritize both academic excellence and the overall development of students. Established in 1995 by the late General BC Joshi, APS Beas serves primarily the children of serving personnel, creating a supportive educational environment that positively impacts military families. Studies have shown that access to quality education significantly boosts morale and retention rates within the armed forces community.
Having assumed command of the Western Command in July 2023, Lt Gen Katiyar brings over 37 years of extensive experience in critical operational areas, including Siachen and the Line of Actual Control. His recent visit underscores the Indian Army’s commitment not only to maintaining operational strength but also to enhancing the welfare of its personnel and their families, thereby reinforcing long-term defense readiness and institutional support.
