Delegation Inspects Site for Upcoming Sainik School in Karbi Anglong

A high-level delegation that included retired senior military officials and representatives from the Assam government carried out a comprehensive site inspection on Friday at Langvoku, Karbi Anglong. This visit aimed to evaluate the proposed site for the upcoming Sainik School, a component of efforts to enhance education quality and instill discipline among the region’s youth.

The delegation was led by Lt Gen (Retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, who chairs the Advisory Committee for the Supervision and Monitoring of the school project. Joining him were Major Gen (Retd) Bhaskar Kalita, Brigadier SM (Retd) Ranjit Borthakur, and Brigadier (Retd) Palash Choudhury, whose extensive military backgrounds are expected to be instrumental in the school’s establishment.

In addition to the military officials, senior state representatives and members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) participated in the inspection. Notable attendees included Pranjal Choudhury, Joint Secretary of the Department of Education, along with the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. The team also comprised architects, engineers, and officials from the State Land and Revenue Department.

During the site visit, the team reviewed a 133-acre parcel of land allocated by the KAAC. They assessed the site plan drafted by the Chief Engineer’s office, focusing on crucial factors such as terrain suitability, access to highways, railways, and airports, as well as proximity to hospitals and other essential services. These considerations are vital for ensuring the smooth operation of a residential institution like a Sainik School.

This proposed school has received official sanction under Clause 5.1 (Annex-II) of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) 2021 and has been approved by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The establishment of the Sainik School is seen as a significant investment in the region’s educational infrastructure, aiming to cultivate future leaders within a structured and disciplined academic environment.

The site inspection represents a pivotal advancement in realizing the Sainik School project, highlighting the government’s dedication to enhancing educational opportunities and nurturing local talent in Karbi Anglong and surrounding areas.
