Indian Army Sponsors Education of Young Civil Warrior from Punjab

In a touching gesture that underscores the bond between the community and the military, the Indian Army’s Golden Arrow Division has announced its commitment to fully sponsor the education of 10-year-old Shvan Singh, a resident of Tara Wali village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district. This move comes in recognition of Shvan’s invaluable support to troops during Operation Sindoor, which concluded recently.

Shvan, a Class IV student, became a well-known figure at the border, regularly delivering water, milk, lassi, and ice to the Army personnel stationed nearby. His selfless acts during a time of heightened tension not only provided crucial support to the soldiers but also earned him the endearing title of the country’s “youngest civil warrior.”

A ceremony held at Ferozepur Cantonment celebrated Shvan’s contributions, where Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Western Command, presented him with accolades and commendations. During the event, Lt Gen Katiyar praised Shvan’s sense of duty, compassion, and patriotism, which is remarkable for someone so young. He emphasized the longstanding and special relationship between the Indian Army and the people of Punjab, highlighting how Shvan’s actions exemplify the deep-rooted spirit of service in the region.

Understanding the importance of education in shaping a promising future, the Army has pledged to cover all of Shvan’s educational expenses, including admission fees, tuition, books, and other academic necessities. Shvan has expressed a strong desire to join the Indian Army when he grows up, which reflects his admiration for the service.

“Shvan’s dedication is an inspiration not only to his village but to the entire nation. The Indian Army stands with him at every step of his journey,” said Lt Gen Katiyar during the ceremony.

Shvan’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the countless unsung heroes who, through their quiet yet meaningful contributions, bolster the nation’s security and morale. His courageous spirit and commitment to helping others are now celebrated as a shining example of civil-military solidarity, showcasing how even the youngest members of the community can leave a lasting impact.
