Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta Commends Military Hospital Namkum Staff for Exceptional Healthcare Services

Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, visited Military Hospital Namkum in Ranchi on July 21, 2025, to acknowledge the hospital’s significant contributions to patient care and military healthcare services.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sengupta praised the staff for their professionalism and steadfast commitment to the values upheld by the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). He underlined the importance of delivering quality healthcare to the defense community and emphasized the critical role that military hospitals play in supporting the health and well-being of soldiers and their families.

As part of the visit, Lt Gen Sengupta presented the prestigious GOC-in-C Commendation Card to two personnel in recognition of their exceptional dedication and service. This award, governed by Army Order 54/77, honors acts of gallantry, distinguished service, or devotion to duty that are noteworthy but do not meet the criteria for higher gallantry awards.

The AFMS is a tri-service organization that provides healthcare to over 1.4 million active military personnel, their dependents, and veterans. It also collaborates with civilian medical talents by integrating postgraduate-trained doctors from prestigious institutions like the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune, who are mandated to serve five-year tenures. This integration aims to further bolster the healthcare system.

Lt Gen Sengupta took command of the Central Command on July 1, 2024, having previously held key positions such as Commander of the Fire and Fury Corps in Leh and Chief of Staff of the Northern Command. His visit to Military Hospital Namkum underscores the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and recognizing excellence within its ranks.
