A 25-year-old Indian Army Para Commando tragically lost his life in a road accident just 20 km away from his home as he was returning to duty. The soldier, Panna Singh, who served in the 6th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (6 PARA), met with the deadly incident near Gohana village around 11 PM on Sunday. At the time of the accident, he was riding his motorcycle back from his village, Ozhiyana (Byawar), to catch a train to Jammu. An unidentified vehicle struck his bike, and the driver fled the scene, leaving Singh to succumb to his injuries at the site of the accident.
Station Officer Jitendra Faujdar provided details about the incident, confirming that Singh was on his way to Ajmer to board a train when the collision occurred. Identification was made possible through personal documents found in the deceased’s pockets. Singh had only recently returned home to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with his family, marking the occasion by tying a rakhi to his three sisters.
Following the tragic news, Panna Singh’s mortal remains were taken back to Ozhiyana village, where his last rites were performed with full military honors on Monday evening. The community came together for a moving procession that extended 28 kilometers, starting from the Amrit Kaur Hospital in Byawar to his village. Hundreds of locals joined the procession, riding bikes and chanting in honor of the fallen soldier. A particularly poignant moment came when Singh’s young son, Mayank, aged just 1.5 years, lit the funeral pyre, while his mother, wife Pooja, and siblings expressed their profound grief during the emotional farewell. An Army unit from Nasirabad presented the national flag to Singh’s father, Prabhu Singh, in a solemn tribute, along with a Guard of Honor.
Panna Singh enlisted in the Army in 2018 and was stationed with the D Team of 6 PARA in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019. He leaves behind his wife Pooja, a four-year-old daughter named Sapna, and his son Mayank. His younger brother Pintu is currently preparing to join the Army, while another brother, Sunil, is in Class 9. The village has come together in mourning, united in grief over the loss of their bravehearted son.
