Bus carrying ITBP personnel plunges into River Sindh in Jammu and Kashmir, rescue operation underway

A bus transporting members of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) met with an unfortunate accident early this morning, plunging into the River Sindh near the Kullan bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The incident occurred at around dawn when the bus reportedly lost control while navigating a curve at Resin Kullan, veering off the road and into the river.

Officials from Ganderbal Police have stated that the bus was empty at the time of the incident, with only the driver on board. He sustained minor injuries and has since been transferred to a nearby medical facility, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

In response to the accident, a joint search and rescue operation was initiated involving teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) based in Ganderbal and Sub Component Gund. Rescue personnel are actively engaged in recovering various items believed to have been on the bus, including weapons owned by the ITBP units.

Authorities have reported that several weapons are unaccounted for following the incident. As of now, three weapons have been successfully recovered from the river, but the search continues for the remaining items to ensure that no personnel or essential equipment is missing.

The rescue operation is being challenged by difficult terrain and strong currents in the river, necessitating a cautious and diligent approach from the rescue teams. They remain on high alert as their efforts progress, with further updates anticipated as the situation develops.
