A terrorist was killed as security forces continued their anti-terror operation ‘Akhal’ in the Akhal area of Kulgam district, South Kashmir, on Saturday. The operation, which commenced on Friday evening, entered its second day as personnel undertook extensive combing efforts in the region’s dense forest.
According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, there were intermittent and intense firefights throughout the night. The troops, described as alert, responded with calibrated fire while tightening the noose around the enemy, as they maintained contact with the terrorist. So far, one terrorist has been neutralized, and the operation is ongoing, as detailed in a statement posted on X.
The encounter originated from a coordinated effort involving the Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and the CRPF, who launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs indicating the presence of terrorists in the vicinity.
This incident marks the third significant encounter in Jammu and Kashmir within the week, resulting in the deaths of a total of six terrorists. Among those neutralized are three involved in a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. Security forces remain vigilant across South Kashmir, where anti-terror operations are underway in multiple districts aimed at dismantling networks of infiltrating and hiding militants.
The identity and affiliation of the terrorist killed in the Kulgam encounter have not yet been officially confirmed. Further updates are expected as the operation remains active, highlighting the ongoing efforts of security forces to stabilize the region.
