BSF Jawan Missing from Srinagar Found in Delhi, Inquiry Launched

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who went missing from his unit headquarters in Srinagar has been located in Delhi while en route to his home in Uttar Pradesh, officials reported on Friday. The trooper, Constable Sugam Choudhary, was part of the ‘C’ Company of the 60th Battalion and was last seen in the Panthachowk area of Srinagar on Thursday evening.

Upon discovering his absence, the BSF, along with local police, promptly launched a large-scale search operation and filed a missing report at the Panthachowk Police Station. Search teams scoured nearby locations, including bus stands, taxi stands, and Nowgam Railway Station, but initially failed to find him.

However, a senior BSF officer later confirmed that Constable Choudhary had been traced to Delhi. The officer indicated that he was traveling without the necessary permission, prompting the initiation of a departmental inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. The officer emphasized that there was no indication of any subversive intent linked to the incident.

Further information is expected to be released following the recording of the trooper’s statement.

This incident unfolds amid intensified security measures across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of a recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 civilians due to assaults orchestrated by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. Security forces in the region continue to ramp up counter-terror operations, focusing on dismantling the terror ecosystem by targeting terrorists and their support networks.
