India’s First Green Hydrogen Plant

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed a landmark step towards sustainability with the commissioning of India’s first Make-in-India Green Hydrogen Plant in the port sector at Kandla in Gujarat. In a social media post, Mr Modi said, This is a commendable effort, championing sustainability and powering our Net-Zero vision. With this, Kandla becomes the first Indian port to house a megawatt-scale indigenous green hydrogen facility, underlining Gujarat’s growing role in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.

  • Inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the project highlights India’s progress in green port infrastructure. Built in just four months, this plant is the first module of a larger 10 Megawatt Green Hydrogen project announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister in May 2025. With an annual production capacity of 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen, the facility marks a key milestone in India’s Net Zero journey.

  • Deendayal Port becomes the first Indian port to operationalise a megawatt-scale green hydrogen plant.  Developed entirely by Indian engineers, the plant sets a benchmark for Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat in the clean energy sector. The initiative follows DPA’s earlier green success – the launch of India’s first Make-in-India electric Green Tug. This cutting-edge facility also strengthens India’s leadership in sustainable maritime operations.

‘Ayurveda Aahara’

  • Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in consultation with the Ministry of Ayush, has released a definitive list of Ayurvedic food preparations under the category of “Ayurveda Aahara.” This significant step brings India’s time-honoured food wisdom into the mainstream, following the introduction of the Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations in 2022.
image 84
  • These regulations recognise foods based on recipes, ingredients, and processes from authoritative Ayurvedic texts, and the new list brings unprecedented clarity and confidence to consumers and businesses alike. The list, issued under Note (1) of Schedule B of the regulations, draws directly from classical Ayurvedic texts listed in Schedule A, ensuring the authenticity and traditional basis of these food formulations.

  • This initiative aims to assist Food Business Operators by providing a clear and credible reference for the manufacture of Ayurveda Aahara products. Mr Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Ayush & Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, urged citizens to incorporate Ayurveda Aahara into their daily lives to experience its long-term health benefits.
  • He emphasised that these time-tested dietary practices not only nourish the body but also strengthen the immune system, support digestion, and promote overall well-being. Krasheninnikov Volcano Erupts After 600 Years

  • Krasheninnikov Volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula erupted for the first time in recorded history, its first in 600 years. Local authorities reported that the eruption began at 2:50 AM local time, sending ash clouds up to 4 km above sea level.
image 87
  • The volcano has been given an orange aviation warning due to the risk it poses to aircraft. The eruption may be linked to a powerful 8.7 magnitude earthquake and repeated aftershocks in the region earlier in the week, which also triggered tsunami warnings.
image 88
  • Krasheninnikov’s last known eruption occurred around 1463. Scientists believe the recent seismic activity could have caused the volcano to erupt. The ash plume has moved eastward toward the Pacific Ocean, and no populated areas are at risk. The volcano, located 200 km north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, remains under close observation. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to avoid travelling near other active volcanoes in the region.

image 89
  • They lifted off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. Upon arrival, Crew-11 joined seven astronauts already aboard the ISS. During their six-month stay, the Crew-11 astronauts will carry out a variety of scientific experiments and technology demonstrations.
  • These include simulating lunar landings, testing eye protection methods for space travel, studying how plant cells divide in space and many others. They will take over from the Crew-10 team, who have been on the station since March. Crew-10 is expected to return to Earth as early as Wednesday.

Slovenia To Ban All Weapons Trade With Israel

  • Slovenia has become the first country in the European Union to ban all weapons trade with Israel over its war in Gaza. The arms embargo was announced by Prime Minister Robert Golob after a government session. It said it was moving ahead independently because the EU was unable to adopt concrete measures due to internal disagreements and disunity.
image 90
  • It added that the government had not issued any permits for the export of military weapons and equipment to Israel since October 2023 because of the conflict. The move by the government comes two weeks after the country declared Israeli ministers persona non grata.
  • Earlier, Slovenia’s Parliament passed a decree recognising Palestinian statehood, following in the steps of Ireland, Norway and Spain. Last week, France, the United Kingdom and Canada also announced they may recognise a Palestinian state.

Frenk pointed out that hundreds of grants may be lost, adversely affecting the work of UCLA researchers, faculty and staff through Washington’s decision.
  • The suspension comes after a US Department of Justice civil rights investigation that alleged UCLA had been deliberately indifferent to widespread harassment of Israeli students during 2024 pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses.
