In a significant address at the National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi, General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, emphasized the Indian Army’s advancements in technology and its commitment to future readiness. Speaking to the 65th NDC course, which comprises 124 officers, including 44 from 32 friendly foreign nations, General Dwivedi outlined the critical influence of advanced technologies and non-kinetic strategies in contemporary warfare.
During the lecture, he articulated the Army’s commitment to Atmanirbharta, or self-reliance, aligning with the national objective of achieving a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) by 2047. This strategic vision, led by Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla, focuses on incorporating artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and enhancing cyber warfare resilience. Furthermore, it addresses the preparedness against new threats such as hypersonic weapons.
General Dwivedi stressed that technology integration is essential, stating, “It is central to retaining a strategic edge in today’s evolving security environment.” His remarks underscore the importance of modernization in the armed forces to meet modern security challenges effectively.
The NDC, established in 1960, has been pivotal in fostering strategic thought leadership across Asia. Its comprehensive 47-week program serves as a vital platform for senior officers to engage with pressing security issues and promote international cooperation.
General Dwivedi’s address aligns with the Army’s ongoing “Decade of Transformation” and marks the “Year of Tech Absorption,” further reaffirming its dedication to developing future-ready defense capabilities.
