🌱 World Bamboo Day 2025

World Bamboo Day will be marked on 18 September 2025 across the globe to highlight the importance of bamboo as a sustainable and multipurpose resource. Popularly referred to as “green gold”, bamboo plays a crucial role in supporting rural livelihoods, preserving the environment, and fostering innovation across industries.

The observance of World Bamboo Day began in 2009, during the 8th World Bamboo Congress held in Bangkok, under the initiative of the World Bamboo Organization. The 2025 theme, “Next Generation Bamboo: Solution, Innovation, and Design”, emphasizes bamboo’s future potential in design and sustainability.

India, which possesses more than 14 million hectares of bamboo area and around 136 species, has placed bamboo at the center of its climate action and economic development agenda through the National Bamboo Mission (NBM). The crop supports multiple sectors, including handicrafts, furniture, construction, paper, and packaging, contributing both to rural employment and ecological balance.

💳 UPI Transaction Limit Enhanced for P2M Payments

In a move to strengthen digital transactions, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has increased the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) limit for Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments. Effective 15 September 2025, the revised framework allows:

  • ₹5 lakh per transaction for P2M payments
  • ₹10 lakh daily limit across all P2M transactions
  • Applicable only for verified merchants

The step aims to simplify high-value transactions in insurance, capital markets, government e-marketplaces, travel services, and loan payments. However, the Person-to-Person (P2P) daily cap remains unchanged at ₹1 lakh. This development is expected to further accelerate India’s shift towards a robust and secure digital economy.
