Naik Surendra KC Awarded Best Student at Mortar JN Course

The Infantry School in Mhow has recently wrapped up its Mortar (JN) Course, concluding on September 17. This session witnessed the participation of 13 international students from Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, who trained alongside personnel from the Indian Army. This development marks a significant step in enhancing regional military cooperation, which is rooted in historical agreements like the 1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship, emphasizing mutual defense collaboration among the nations involved.

The closing ceremony highlighted the program’s commitment to enhancing battlefield effectiveness, precision fire support, and operational safety—skills increasingly vital in modern warfare. Recognizing excellence among participants, Naik Surendra KC was named the Overall Best Student of the course. Meanwhile, Corporal Prakash Singh Air from the Nepali Army received accolades as the Best Foreign Student. In addition, several other outstanding participants were awarded trophies and certificates to acknowledge their commendable performances throughout the course.

Research, including a report from the RAND Corporation, indicates that advanced artillery training can significantly decrease error rates by as much as 30%. Such findings underscore the importance of conducting rigorous training programs to ensure that military personnel are equipped with the skills necessary for effective operations.

The Infantry School continues to play a crucial role in preparing soldiers for complex operational environments, affirming India’s dedication to military excellence and international collaboration. Looking ahead, the 2025 Mortar Course is set to further enhance these efforts and strengthen ties with regional partners.
