Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, conducted a comprehensive review of counter-terrorism operations in South Kashmir. This evaluation comes on the heels of Operation Guddar, during which security forces successfully neutralized two prominent terrorists in the dense Guddar forest area of Kulgam.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma acknowledged and honored the personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) for their outstanding contributions to the operation. This collaboration showcased the efficiency of joint efforts among the Army, JKP, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), illustrating a well-coordinated approach to counter-terrorism in the region.
An important aspect of this review was the demonstration of innovations and AI-driven technologies developed by the troops. This shift towards modern tools underscores the Army’s adaptation to contemporary conflict scenarios, with reports indicating that these innovations have led to a nearly 20% improvement in operational efficiency, as highlighted by defense studies.
Lt Gen Sharma commended the troops for their professionalism and resourcefulness, emphasizing the need for resilience in the face of ongoing challenges in the area. His visit is particularly significant in the context of increasing security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in regions that remain susceptible to infiltration and militant activities.
Reiterating the Army’s commitment to maintaining stability along India’s borders with Pakistan and China, Lt Gen Sharma stressed the strategic significance of South Kashmir within the overall security framework of the nation. This commitment highlights not just the operational focus of the military but also its role in a larger geopolitical context.
