In a significant advancement for its defense capabilities, India test-fired the next-generation intermediate-range ballistic missile, Agni-Prime, from an advanced rail-based mobile launcher system. This successful launch took place on Thursday, conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in tandem with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
This test marks a noteworthy development in India’s strategic deterrent capabilities, particularly by demonstrating the ability to conduct canisterised launches from mobile platforms. This approach not only enhances operational flexibility but also strengthens the survivability of India’s missile forces.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the successful test as a pioneering achievement, emphasizing that it positions India among a select few nations equipped with rail-based canisterised missile systems. He expressed his congratulations to the DRDO scientists, the Armed Forces, and the SFC for their roles in the accomplishment.
The Agni-Prime missile boasts an impressive strike range of up to 2,000 kilometers and is poised to replace older variants in the Agni series. It is designed with enhanced accuracy, improved mobility, and sophisticated guidance systems, thereby serving as a critical addition to India’s developing strategic arsenal.
Officials confirmed that the test validated all mission parameters, reaffirming the reliability and readiness of the Agni-Prime system. The successful deployment of the rail-based missile platform enhances India’s deterrent capabilities in light of evolving regional security challenges, providing an additional layer of strategic defense.
