What is International Court of Justice?

  • The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN).
  •  It was established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations and began work in April 1946.
  • Headquarter – The Hague (Netherlands)
  • Of the six principal organs of the United Nations, it is the only one not located in New York.
  • The Court settle the disputes in accordance with international law and gives advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.
  • The Court is composed of 15 judges, who are elected for terms of office of nine years by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council. It is assisted by a Registry, its administrative organ.
  •  Its official languages are English and French.

PM to dedicate 750 MW Rewa Solar Project

  • This Project comprises of three solar generating units of 250 MW each located on a 500 hectare plot of land situated inside a Solar Park.
  • The Solar Park was developed by the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a Joint Venture Company of Madhya Pradesh UrjaVikas Nigam Limited (MPUVN), and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a Central Public Sector Undertaking.
  • The Rewa Solar Project was the first solar project in the country to break the grid parity barrier. 
  • This project will reduce carbon emission equivalent to approx. 15 lakh ton of CO2 per year.
  •  It is also Asia’s largest 750 MW Rewa ultra mega solar projects.
  •  The project has also received World Bank Group President’s Award for innovation and excellence and was included in the Prime Minister’s “A Book of Innovation: New Beginnings”.

UP Startup Policy 2020

  • UP Startup Policy 2020 got cabinet approval.
  • Until the Startup Policy 2020, Uttar Pradesh did not have an independent and comprehensive Policy for the Startups in the state, policy for Startups was governed under the- Uttar Pradesh Information Technology and Startup Policy 2017.
  • It aims at setting up 100 incubators in all the 75 districts of the state.
  • The policy is also expected to generate 1, 50,000 employment and self-employment opportunities, including 50,000 direct jobs.
  • The Uttar Pradesh ‘Startup Policy’ was prepared by the State Government with the help of NITI Aayog back in 2018 and got approval now.
  • The Startup Policy 2020 will be applicable for a period of 5 years.
  • The aim will be of the corporatization of more than 10,000 startups across the state in these 5 years.
  • The policy will also foster an enabling ecosystem and set up a state-of-art centre of excellence.
  • The new Startup Policy will also accord equal importance to the startups in varied fields of medical and health, agriculture, khadi, energy, education, transport, tourism, etc.
  • Special emphasis to the startup ventures in the backward regions of Bundelkhand and Purvanchal regions will be given with additional incubation and financial support.

Sri Lanka and Maldives first two countries to eliminate Measles and Rubella Virus

  • World Health Organization (WHO) has announced on 8th July 2020 that Sri Lanka and the Maldives have eliminated Rubella Virus.
  • Became the first two countries from the South East Asia Region to have successfully eliminated both the Measles and Rubella Virus.
  • A country is verified as having eliminated measles and rubella when there is no evidence of endemic transmission for over three years by a well-performing surveillance system.
  • Last endemic case of measles in Maldives was in 2009 and of rubella in October 2015, while Sri Lanka reported last endemic case of measles in May 2016 and of rubella in March 2017.
  • In 2017-18, Bhutan, Timor-Leste, North Korea and the Maldives were the four countries from the South-East Asia Region of the WHO to successfully eliminate Measles Virus.
  •  In July 2019, Sri Lanka became the third nation from the South-East Asia Region of WHO to eliminate Measles.
  • The target year set by the WHO for eliminating Measles from the South-East Asia Region is 2023

Samadhan se Vikas scheme

  • The Government of Haryana decided to introduce the â€˜Samadhan se Vikas’ scheme.
  • It is for the recovery of long-pending dues on account of External Development Charges (EDC) and Infrastructural Development Charges (IDC).
  • The scheme is based on the central scheme of â€˜Vivad se Vishwas-2020’.
  • Samadhan se Vikas scheme
  • External Development Charges – The charges paid by the real estate developer to civic authorities for maintenance of civic amenities.
  • Infrastructure Development Charges – the charges paid by the real estate developer to the state government for development of major infrastructure projects across the state.
  • Vivad se Vishwas scheme – Direct tax scheme announced in Budget 2020, for settling tax disputes between individuals and the income tax department.
