The fourth edition of the India-Australia Joint Military Exercise ‘AUSTRAHIND 2025’ kicked off today in Perth, Australia, showcasing the commitment of both nations to enhance their defence collaborations and operational cooperation.
The Indian Army has deployed a contingent of 120 personnel for the two-week-long exercise, which is scheduled to run until October 26, 2025. This contingent is led by a Battalion of the Gorkha Rifles and includes members from various supporting arms and services, reflecting a diverse representation of capabilities.
The focus of this year’s exercise is to bolster military cooperation, interoperability, and mutual understanding between the Indian and Australian armed forces. Designed as a platform for exchanging tactics, techniques, and procedures in sub-conventional warfare, the exercise will pay particular attention to urban and semi-urban environments.
Activities planned for AUSTRAHIND 2025 include joint company-level operations in varying terrains, particularly open and semi-desert regions. The participating forces will engage in collaborative planning sessions, tactical drills, and advanced training in specialized skills. Additionally, the integration of emerging military technologies will be a key component, enhancing the ability of both armies to function effectively in complex operational scenarios.
Officials emphasized that this joint exercise will not only refine the operational capabilities of both armies but also deepen mutual trust and foster camaraderie among the troops. AUSTRAHIND 2025 represents a significant step in the growing India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). It reaffirms both countries’ commitment to promoting peace, stability, and a free Indo-Pacific region, highlighting the strategic importance of their ongoing collaboration.
