In a significant advancement for India’s military capabilities, the Indian Army has sanctioned the induction of a cutting-edge Ground-Based Mobile Electronic Intelligence System (GBMES) valued at over ₹1,000 crore. This system aims to enhance electronic warfare and battlefield surveillance, providing a pivotal advantage in modern combat scenarios.

Designed to intercept, track, and analyze communications and radar emissions from enemy forces in real time, the GBMES equips commanders with comprehensive situational awareness and an operational edge for both offensive and defensive maneuvers. The system’s high-precision geo-fixing technology allows for the accurate localization of hostile emitters, facilitating coordinated strikes by artillery, missile, and air forces.

The GBMES is fully mobile and mounted on all-terrain vehicles, ensuring rapid deployment across diverse landscapes, from the rugged terrain of the Himalayas to arid desert regions. This mobility is a crucial asset, allowing the Indian Army to adapt swiftly to changing battlefield conditions.

Developed primarily under the aegis of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the project exemplifies India’s commitment to self-reliance in advanced defense technologies. Notable DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) and the Centre for Electromagnetic Science and Technology (C-EMST), were instrumental in creating the system’s signal classification and emitter identification algorithms.
