Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, the Army Commander of the Sapta Shakti Command and Colonel of the Madras Regiment, recently visited the 2nd Battalion of the Madras Regiment. This visit served as a reaffirmation of his longstanding connection with one of the Indian Army’s most respected infantry regiments.
During his address to all ranks, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh commended the battalion, known affectionately as the ‘Thambis,’ for their unwavering dedication, discipline, and professional excellence. He praised their operational readiness and teamwork while urging them to maintain their commitment to the proud ethos of the Madras Regiment. Stressing the importance of these qualities, he encouraged the troops to perform with zeal and devotion to duty.
The Army Commander reminded the soldiers that their legacy of courage, honor, and sacrifice is a source of inspiration for future generations. He urged them to uphold the illustrious traditions of the Madras Regiment, one of the oldest and most decorated infantry regiments in the Indian Army.
In his role as Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Singh visited the Shri Mahaganapathy Temple, a significant regimental shrine. There, he offered prayers for the continued success and glory of both the Regiment and the Indian Army.
In a gesture that highlighted the Regiment’s enduring spirit of service, he distributed wheelchairs as part of a charitable initiative aimed at supporting marginalized sections of society. This act reinforced the commitment of the Madras Regiment to community welfare and inclusivity.
The visit also emphasized the Army Commander’s commitment to fostering regimental pride, moral strength, and soldier welfare—values that are central to the Indian Army’s professional ethos. Under his leadership, the Madras Regiment continues to embody its motto, “Swadharme Nidhanam Shreyaha,” which translates to “It is Glory to Die Doing One’s Duty.”
