Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army Training Command (ARTRAC), conducted an insightful visit to the Institute of Military Law (IML) on November 10, 2025. The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the ongoing training methodologies, infrastructure advancements, and academic initiatives being implemented at the institute, all aimed at addressing the dynamic legal and operational requirements of the Indian Army.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma received a thorough briefing on the institute’s training curriculum, pedagogical approaches, and the recent adaptations designed to equip legal officers for future challenges in military justice and administrative law. The integration of technology-enabled learning modules was highlighted, demonstrating the institute’s commitment to aligning its training content with the contemporary demands of modern warfare and joint-service operations.
The Army Commander also took the opportunity to assess various infrastructure development projects currently underway on the campus. These initiatives are intended to enrich the overall learning environment, ensuring that state-of-the-art facilities are available for officers in training.
In addition to reviewing the infrastructure, Lt Gen Sharma engaged directly with student officers enrolled in the Judge Advocate Basic Course (JAC-35). He commended their commitment to upholding the highest standards of military ethics and justice and praised the faculty and staff for their professionalism and dedication. Their collective efforts are instrumental in molding competent Judge Advocate officers who will serve the Indian Armed Forces.
Stressing the importance of legal officers within the military framework, Lt Gen Sharma underscored the critical roles they play in maintaining discipline, fairness, and procedural integrity. He encouraged the institute to persist in innovating its training modules, ensuring they align with the overarching objectives of the Army Training Command. He emphasized that a solid legal framework, paired with well-trained Judge Advocate officers, constitutes an essential pillar for an agile, adaptive, and future-ready military force.
