In a significant address at the Western Air Command Commanders’ Conference 2025 held in New Delhi, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan emphasized the ongoing transformation of the Indian Air Force (IAF) towards becoming a modern and network-enabled military entity. The conference revolved around the theme “विकासशील सक्षम भारतीय वायु सेना,” which translates to “Developing a Capable Indian Air Force.”
General Chauhan highlighted the IAF’s progress in enhancing capabilities across multiple domains, underscoring the importance of sustained modernization and increased operational readiness. He pointed out that the rapid integration of indigenous technologies is crucial for preparing the air force to effectively address emerging security challenges.
A significant focus of his address was the strengthening of indigenous defence manufacturing, reflecting the growing role of domestically developed platforms within the IAF’s strategic framework. This advancement aligns with the national objective of self-reliance as envisioned in the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Reiterating the necessity of joint operations, General Chauhan advocated for deeper collaboration among the Army, Navy, and Air Force to bolster national defense capabilities. He remarked on the progress being made toward Integrated Theatre Commands, emphasizing clarity and thoughtful deliberation in the transition process that promotes operational integration, interoperability, and a cohesive strategic outlook.
Commending the commitment and professionalism of air warriors, General Chauhan expressed confidence in their dedication, which he described as pivotal in safeguarding India’s airspace. He acknowledged their vital role in protecting national interests amidst a dynamic geopolitical landscape.
