The fifth edition of the India–Malaysia joint military exercise, Harimau Shakti 2025, commenced today at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. Running from December 5 to 18, this exercise aims to bolster defense cooperation and enhance interoperability between the two armies.

The Indian Army is primarily represented by troops from the DOGRA Regiment, while the Malaysian contingent consists of personnel from the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malaysian Army. This cooperative effort marks a significant engagement in the realm of joint military exercises.

This year’s exercise focuses on rehearsing sub-conventional operations as outlined in Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate, with a strong emphasis on coordinated counter-terrorism efforts. Participants will engage in a series of tactical drills, which include cordon-and-search operations, search-and-destroy missions, and heliborne insertion techniques, all aimed at optimizing operational effectiveness in real-world scenarios.

The curriculum also features the Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR), combat reflex shooting, and yoga sessions, all designed to enhance physical conditioning and overall readiness. These diverse training components are essential to developing the skills necessary for modern military operations.

A significant aspect of the training includes securing helipads and synchronizing joint evacuation procedures for casualties. Additionally, both armies will refine drills that are crucial during counter-terrorism scenarios. The overarching goal is to ensure seamless cooperation which minimizes risks to life and property while adhering to the principles of UN peacekeeping.

Throughout the course of the exercise, both India and Malaysia will exchange best practices across a wide spectrum of combat skills. This mutual learning experience is anticipated to strengthen tactical synergy and deepen defense collaboration between the Indian Army and the Royal Malaysian Army. The initiative not only aims to enhance military capabilities but also to further solidify the bilateral ties between the two nations, reflecting a shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.
