Security agencies in Jammu are on heightened alert following the recovery of a Chinese-made rifle telescope found near the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office. The incident has raised significant concerns among law enforcement officials, especially given the telescope’s association with assault and sniper rifles.

The telescope was discovered in a densely vegetated area situated between the NIA office and the Jammu and Kashmir Police Security Headquarters. Notably, this location is in close proximity to the battalion headquarters of both the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

While senior police officials have opted not to provide official comments, sources within the security apparatus have expressed alarm regarding the implications of such a find near critical security installations. The discovery follows recent intelligence reports warning of potential infiltration attempts from across the border, particularly under cover of fog.

In response to these heightened threats, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, alongside various security forces, have been engaged in extensive search and area domination operations. These measures target locations from the International Border (IB) to the rugged terrains along the Line of Control (LoC) in an effort to preempt any infiltration.

These operations were initiated after intelligence agencies highlighted an uptick in terrorist activities at launch pads across the border, predominantly opposite districts such as Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Rajouri. A senior officer from the Border Security Force (BSF) noted that, following extensive damage to terror infrastructure during Operation Sindoor over seven months ago, Pakistan has revitalized approximately 72 terror launch pads aimed at Jammu province.

The officer detailed that 12 of these launch pads are now operational in the Sialkot and Zafarwal sectors near the International Border, while around 60 are active across the Line of Control. This resurgence presents a formidable challenge to security forces, prompting continuous increased surveillance and proactive operations to fortify defenses against potential incursions targeting India’s borders and essential installations.
