The Indian military community is in mourning following the tragic loss of Naik Manjeet Singh, a dedicated soldier of the 8 Sikh Light Infantry, who passed away from a heart attack during training. At just 33, Singh was a resident of Redbaggi village in Sriganganagar and had recently returned from a brief leave, just five days prior to the incident.

Family members shared that Singh had been stationed in Jammu and Kashmir and had traveled to Shahjahanpur for training. His health reportedly declined on December 23, culminating in a fatal cardiac arrest. Described as a diligent soldier who had recently earned a promotion, Singh’s sudden passing has shocked his family and community.

Upon the return of his mortal remains to Redbaggi, the scene was profoundly emotional. His wife, holding their two-year-old son, gently caressed his body, embodying the depth of grief felt by the family, villagers, and fellow soldiers alike.

The final farewell for Naik Manjeet Singh was conducted with full military honours. Subedar Major Maan Singh Chauhan, along with army and civil administration officials, attended the solemn ceremony. Among those paying their respects was Retd Havildar Gurdyal Singh, 75, of the same regiment, who remembered Singh’s dedication and service with pride.

The heartache was palpable as Singh’s niece, Rajwinder Kaur, recalled how he had just returned home on leave earlier in December, directly leaving for training on December 20. “He returned home only after his death,” she lamented, surrounded by family who shared in her sorrow. Singh’s seven-year-old son, Namandeep, also expressed his grief, supported by relatives during this trying time.

Family members revealed that during his leave, Singh had complained of chest pain and intended to seek medical attention during his training, highlighting the tragic nature of his untimely demise.

Having served his country for 12 years, Naik Manjeet Singh’s unexpected passing has created an irreplaceable void, not only in his family’s life but also among his fellow soldiers. The nation remembers him with solemn dignity, honoring the commitment and sacrifice he exhibited throughout his service.
