The Low Intensity Conflict Operations (LICO) Course, hosted by the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) in Vairengte, marked a successful conclusion on December 31, 2025, with 215 students completing its demanding training program. This course attracted participation from 13 officers and soldiers representing various Friendly Foreign Countries, including Nepal, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Ghana, Cameroon, and Zimbabwe. Such engagement showcases India’s evolving position as a pivotal center for specialized training in counter-insurgency and jungle warfare on a global scale.
During the valedictory address, Major General Kulvir Singh, SM, the Commandant of CIJWS, emphasized the evolving nature of warfare, highlighting how rapid technological advancements, shifting threat landscapes, and the complexities of hybrid conflict are reshaping military operations. He encouraged the graduates to embody core military values such as clarity, courage, and compassion in their future endeavors.
Recognitions were also awarded during the ceremony. Captain Shikhar Thapa of the Garhwal Rifles earned the title of Best Student of the Officer Course, a testament to his outstanding performance and leadership throughout the training. Meanwhile, Naik Sudhir Singh from the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry was honored as the Best Student of the JCO/NCO Course, acknowledging his exceptional field skills and professional capabilities.
The successful completion of the LICO Course further solidified CIJWS’s reputation as a preeminent institution in counter-insurgency and jungle warfare training. It plays a vital role in enhancing interoperability, fostering professional excellence, and strengthening international military cooperation. The course provided participants with advanced operational skills that are essential in today’s low-intensity conflict environments, reinforcing the Indian Army’s commitment to capacity building and leadership development across diverse and complex operational landscapes.
