Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir — On Sunday evening, **a few drones suspected to be from Pakistan were sighted along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Naushera-Rajouri sector of Jammu & Kashmir, according to defence sources.

Suspected Pakistan Drones Spotted Along LoC

The sightings occurred in the late hours of Sunday, prompting a swift response from Indian Army units deployed in forward areas of the region.

Incident and Army Response

Locals from villages near the border reported that the drones were observed around 7:28 pm, and shortly after, Indian Army troops opened fire and undertook counter-unmanned aerial system measures to prevent the objects from entering deeper into Indian territory.

A resident in the area recounted that there was “extensive firing” in the Jangarh and Kalal areas as the army reacted to the suspected aerial intrusions, and expressed gratitude for the forces’ prompt action.

According to defence sources, the drones were forced to retreat back across the LoC after Indian troops implemented counter-drone measures.

Wider Drone Activity Along Border Areas

This event is part of a broader pattern of suspected drone movements along the LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu & Kashmir. Security forces reported movements of suspected drones in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts, leading to heightened vigilance and on-ground search operations.

In some cases, suspected drone-like objects with blinking lights were seen hovering briefly before returning to the Pakistan side, according to officials.

Security Measures and Concerns

In response to these incursions:

  • Search operations were launched in forward areas to detect any possible payloads or dropped consignments.
  • Counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) measures were activated by army units to prevent further incursions.
  • Security forces have maintained heightened alertness across the LoC and IB following repeated reports of drone sightings.

Recent Related Incidents

Just prior to this latest sighting, a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu & Kashmir Police recovered a consignment of arms and ammunition near the IB in Samba district, which was suspected to be drone-related. The recovered cache included pistols, magazines, live rounds, and a grenade.

Context and Security Implications

Security officials have noted that such drone activities may be used for surveillance, weapon drops, or other hostile missions, though formal conclusions are still under investigation. The sighting comes amid a period of elevated tensions along the border, making aerial threats a key focus for Indian defence and security agencies.
