NATO member Turkey is currently engaged in discussions with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia regarding the potential for Turkey to join a defense alliance recently established between the two countries. This was confirmed by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a press briefing on Thursday.
Fidan indicated that while talks are ongoing, no formal agreement has been reached at this time. He elaborated on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s strategic vision, describing it as “broader” and “more comprehensive,” with the objective of forming an enhanced defense platform that extends beyond the current partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The defense agreement, which was announced against a backdrop of rising tensions in the Gulf region, has sparked numerous discussions surrounding its implications, particularly concerning its possible nuclear dimensions.
