The 43rd Senior National Rowing Championship–2026 reached a successful conclusion at the Army Rowing Node (ARN) under the Mission Olympics Wing of the College of Military Engineering (CME) in Pune. This event marks a significant milestone in India’s rowing journey and highlights the broader evolution of the national sports landscape.
The closing ceremony featured Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, as the esteemed Chief Guest. The event drew attendance from senior Indian Army officials and notable civil dignitaries, including the President of the Rowing Federation of India, emphasizing its national significance.
The championship saw enthusiastic participation from various State and Services teams, reflective of the increasing depth, competitiveness, and professionalism found in Indian rowing. A particularly moving highlight of the event was the Para Single Scull competition, which showcased the resilience and indomitable spirit of athletes who competed at the highest levels despite facing physical challenges.
In the overall standings, the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) emerged victorious, followed closely by the Army Sports Control Board (ASCB) in second place, reaffirming the dominance of the Services sector in competitive rowing.
During his address, the Army Commander praised ARN and CME for their exemplary planning and flawless implementation of the championship. He reiterated the Indian Army’s commitment to nurturing world-class athletes and creating an environment conducive to excellence in sports on both national and international stages.
The successful conclusion of the championship underscored the essential role of the Indian Army in bolstering India’s sporting culture and advancing the nation’s Olympic aspirations.
