Twenty-nine student officers from the Long Gunnery Staff Course (LGSC), accompanied by three Directing Staff and led by Major General VM Dhumne, visited INS Dronacharya on February 2 and 3, 2026. This engagement marked a significant opportunity for professional interaction between two of India’s premier gunnery institutions: the Indian Army’s School of Artillery and the Indian Navy.
The discussions during this visit centered on enhancing inter-service interoperability, a crucial aspect of modern military operations. Emphasis was placed on strengthening joint warfighting capabilities and exchanging best practices in several areas including gunnery training, firepower employment, and modern combat methodologies. These discussions are particularly vital as the need for coordination between different branches of the armed forces becomes increasingly essential in the contemporary security landscape.
During the interaction, participants explored contemporary challenges in gunnery operations, evolving military doctrines, and the impact of technological advancements on firepower planning. By sharing insights and experiences, the visit aimed to cultivate deeper cooperation and mutual learning between gunnery professionals from both the Army and Navy. This collaborative spirit is integral to ensuring that both services can effectively address the dynamics of modern warfare.
The significance of this visit was further underscored by the broader trend towards jointness and synergy among the Indian Armed Forces. The commitment of the Indian Army and Navy to integrated training and operational excellence reflects the evolving complexities of the security environment in which they operate. As the region faces multifaceted threats, the ability to operate seamlessly together becomes paramount for national defense strategy.
