US Removes Additional 25% Tariff on Indian Goods
The United States has withdrawn the extra 25% tariff that was earlier imposed on Indian products, marking a positive shift in bilateral trade relations. The decision was formally announced on February 7, 2026, following the successful conclusion of a new trade understanding between India and the US.
This additional duty had been introduced during the Ukraine conflict, when Washington objected to India’s continued purchase of Russian crude oil, arguing that such transactions indirectly supported the war effort. As a result, several Indian exports faced steep duties in the American market.
With the latest executive order, the extra tariff will be scrapped from 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time, restoring normal trade conditions for Indian exporters. Alongside this, both countries have agreed to lower reciprocal tariffs, reducing them from 25% to 18% once implementation is complete.
Overall, Indian goods that were facing tariff levels close to 50% last year will now enjoy significantly improved access to the US market. The move reflects a broader reset in India–US relations, covering cooperation in energy security, defence, and trade facilitation.
India’s Wool Production Scenario in 2026
Wool continues to play an important role in India’s textile, handicraft, and rural economy. It is widely used in the production of carpets, blankets, shawls, and industrial materials, supporting livelihoods across sheep-rearing regions.
In 2026, India remains one of the world’s major sheep-rearing nations. Among all states, Rajasthan leads the country in wool output, producing 16,013.50 thousand kg, which accounts for nearly 47.5% of India’s total production. The state’s dry climate, vast grazing land, and native breeds such as Marwari and Chokla make it ideal for wool production, particularly coarse wool used in carpets and rugs.
Other significant contributors include Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Telangana, and Gujarat, each known for regional specialization and steady output. Rajasthan’s overwhelming share makes it the backbone of India’s wool industry, while other states contribute to diversification and growth.
India Triumphs in ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 Final
India once again showcased its strength in youth cricket by delivering a commanding performance in the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 final against England. The match drew global attention as India registered a historic batting display followed by disciplined bowling.
Batting first, India posted a massive 411/9 in 50 overs, the highest total ever recorded in an Under-19 World Cup final. Vaibhav Sooryanvanshi starred with a brilliant knock of 175 runs, while captain Ayush Mhatre added a valuable 53.
England fought back during the chase, with Caleb Falconer scoring a century, but regular wickets prevented them from sustaining momentum. England were eventually bowled out for 311, falling short despite their efforts. Indian bowler R. Ambrish played a key role by taking three crucial wickets.
The victory reinforced India’s dominance in Under-19 cricket and highlighted the emergence of promising young talent on the world stage.
Rouble Nagi Brings Global Spotlight to Grassroots Education
Indian educator and social activist Rouble Nagi earned international recognition by winning the Global Teacher Prize 2026, which carries a reward of USD 1 million. The award was presented at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, making headlines worldwide.
Rouble Nagi was honoured for her innovative work in providing education to underprivileged children, particularly those living in slum areas. These centres serve children who have never attended school as well as those already enrolled but needing additional support.
She uses art, murals, and community engagement as tools for learning, believing that education should reach children in their own surroundings. The prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for Teaching,” was launched in 2015 by GEMS Education to honour exceptional educators worldwide.
Rouble Nagi became the 10th recipient of this prestigious award, joining past winners from countries such as Kenya, Palestine, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
