Teledyne FLIR OEM Launches Long-Range Thermal Imaging System for ISR Applications

Teledyne FLIR OEM has unveiled a groundbreaking long-range thermal imaging system tailored for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications. The newly launched system, known as the Neutrino SX8 ISR 50-1000, marks an expansion of the company’s existing Neutrino ISR product line, which is utilized in both fixed and mobile surveillance platforms.

This advanced thermal imaging system is specifically designed for missions where early detection and identification are vital, such as border monitoring, perimeter security, and counter-drone operations. Leveraging a mid-wave infrared thermal camera paired with a continuously variable zoom lens, the Neutrino SX8 ISR 50-1000 allows operators to monitor targets over impressive distances.

The system boasts exceptional detection capabilities, enabling operators to spot vehicles at distances of up to 34 kilometers (21 miles). Recognition of these vehicles occurs at about 23.5 kilometers (14.6 miles), with identification possible at approximately 20 kilometers (12.4 miles). This range positions it as the longest-range configuration available in the Neutrino ISR family.

At the heart of the Neutrino SX8 ISR 50-1000 is a cooled thermal sensor featuring a resolution of 1280 by 1024 pixels, which operates within the mid-wave infrared spectrum. The sensor’s pixels, measuring 8 micrometers (0.000315 inches), significantly contribute to the clarity and thermal sensitivity of the images produced. Complementing the sensor is a zoom lens that offers a versatile focal length range from 50 millimeters (2 inches) to an impressive 1,000 millimeters (39.4 inches).

Efficient cooling of the thermal sensor is achieved through a linear Stirling cooler, a mechanical component that maintains the low temperatures crucial for high-performance infrared imaging.

The Neutrino SX8 ISR 50-1000 employs widely accepted industry interfaces, facilitating seamless connectivity to existing surveillance networks and command-and-control systems. Connectivity options include Gigabit Ethernet for network data transmission, Camera Link for high-speed image transfers, and HD-SDI for standard high-definition video output.

Furthermore, this state-of-the-art imaging system is designed to support artificial intelligence-based processing capabilities. It can operate software models for automated detection, tracking, and classification of objects, thereby enhancing the efficiency of target identification for operators. The system also incorporates image signal processing libraries that improve overall image quality, offering techniques that enhance apparent resolution, minimize atmospheric distortion, and boost contrast in challenging viewing conditions.
