Exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’
The seventh edition of the India–Japan joint military drill Exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ commenced at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubattia, Uttarakhand. Scheduled from 24 February to 9 March 2026, the exercise reflects the deepening defence engagement between the two nations.
A contingent of 120 personnel from each country is participating in the exercise. The Japanese side is represented by troops from the 32nd Infantry Regiment of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), while the Indian Army contingent is drawn from the Ladakh Scouts. Conducted alternately in India and Japan, the exercise has emerged as a cornerstone of bilateral military cooperation.
The primary objective of Dharma Guardian is to enhance interoperability and improve joint operational capabilities, particularly in semi-urban warfare scenarios. Troops are engaging in a range of tactical drills, including:
- Establishment of Temporary Operating Bases
- Creation of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) grids
- Deployment of Mobile Vehicle Check Posts
- Cordon and Search Operations in hostile settings
- Heliborne missions
- Close-quarter battle and house intervention drills
Through these activities, both armies aim to strengthen coordination and mutual understanding in contemporary combat environments.
Exercise Agni Varsha
The Indian Army, under the Southern Command, conducted Exercise Agni Varsha at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in the desert sector. The exercise was designed to assess combat readiness and validate integrated battlefield capabilities.
Agni Varsha focused on the synchronized employment of combined arms, long-range precision firepower, and network-centric command systems in a realistic operational setting. The Integrated Fire and Manoeuvre Exercise highlighted the effectiveness of mechanised forces operating in coordinated multi-domain environments.
The demonstration was witnessed by defence journalists from 25 countries, who observed the operational agility, accuracy, and striking power of the Indian Army’s Combined Arms Forces in the Thar Desert.
The Integrated Manoeuvre Force included:
- T-90 Main Battle Tanks
- Infantry Combat Vehicles
- K-9 Vajra, Sharang and Bofors artillery systems
- Rocket launch platforms
- Advanced surveillance and strike drones
- Indigenous ALH Weapon System Integrated helicopters
- Apache attack helicopters
The exercise underscored India’s growing emphasis on technology-enabled warfare and precision engagement capabilities.
Exercise Kharga Shakti 2026
The Indian Army successfully concluded Exercise Kharga Shakti 2026 along the western front. The large-scale drill evaluated operational preparedness under diverse and challenging battlefield conditions.
The exercise tested the corps’ ability to integrate mobility, firepower, and advanced technologies into cohesive combat power. Specialised units such as Ashni (Fire) Platoons, Divyastra Battery, and Shaktibaan Regiments played a crucial role in coordinated surveillance, deployment, and precision strike operations.
Kharga Shakti also demonstrated the Army’s expanding capacity to function in a technology-driven combat environment. The use of advanced sensors, secure communication networks, and modern protection systems enabled rapid decision-making and enhanced battlefield effectiveness.

Inbound Aerospace Invests ₹100 Crores in Chennai
Inbound Aerospace, an emerging enterprise in India’s aerospace sector, has signed a memorandum of understanding to establish an advanced manufacturing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The project involves an investment of ₹100 crores and will focus on the production of recoverable and reusable spacecraft systems and associated subsystems.
This initiative highlights the growing role of private companies in India’s space ecosystem and aligns with the broader vision of self-reliance under the Make in India programme.
Chennai’s well-established industrial infrastructure and existing presence of major aerospace players such as HAL and DRDO-linked establishments make it a strategic choice for the facility.
The project is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities. Over 40 highly skilled jobs will be created, with around 60 positions planned during the initial phase of operations. The development further strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as a prominent aerospace manufacturing hub in India.
