A serving Indian Army Brigadier and his adult son were allegedly assaulted on the night of April 11, 2026, in South Delhi’s Vasant Enclave. The incident unfolded when Brigadier Parminder Singh Arora objected to two individuals consuming alcohol in their parked vehicle near their residence. This confrontation quickly escalated and involved a larger group of men, prompting a serious response from the Indian Army.
The incident began around 10:00 PM when Brigadier Arora and his son, who is an IIT graduate, were taking an evening walk after dinner. They noticed two men drinking inside a Mercedes car with the registration number DL3CCY 0789. The Brigadier intervened, stating that public drinking was not permitted in their residential area and requested the individuals to either move or go home.
However, the situation grew tense when the individuals refused to comply. One reportedly told Brigadier Arora that he was “free to call anyone” but would not leave. They called for reinforcements, and soon seven to eight additional men arrived in multiple vehicles, including taxis, to confront the officer and his son.
In a subsequent interview, the Brigadier’s son recounted the events, explaining that their peaceful walk turned into an assault when the group descended upon them. He described how his father was pushed and he himself was dragged, sustaining bruises in the process. The son stated, “The goons landed in two taxis and started assaulting me and badmouthing my mother. No weapons were involved.”
Reports indicate that a Delhi Police van arrived at the scene during the chaos; however, the victims alleged that the officers did not intervene effectively. One constable reportedly behaved “as if he was another passerby,” and the family faced reluctance from the Vasant Vihar police station when they attempted to file a First Information Report (FIR).
In response to the incident, the Indian Army took swift action. An official statement emphasized the seriousness with which the Army views this case. A Military Police team has been dispatched to assist the Brigadier, and the Delhi Police has been urged to prioritize the investigation.
Delhi Police sources have confirmed that a complaint has been lodged and the investigation is currently ongoing. However, as of now, no arrests have been made, and officials have not issued a detailed public statement on the progress of the case.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with veterans and citizens expressing alarm over the assault on a serving Army officer and his family. The issue of public drinking in the capital has raised questions about civic order, the safety of residents in upscale neighborhoods, and the effectiveness of law enforcement response in such situations.
The case continues to unfold, with the Indian Army’s involvement highlighting the seriousness of the threats faced by military personnel and their families. Further updates are anticipated as the Delhi Police investigation progresses alongside the support from Military Police.
