Ukraine has recently received a new shipment of Roshel Senator Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, a significant step in the ongoing support from Canada amidst the ongoing war with Russia. The handover consists of 20 of these advanced platforms, which have been transferred to the State Special Transport Service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. This delivery aims to bolster troop protection during explosives clearance operations, a critical aspect of Ukraine’s military strategy.
This latest military assistance follows Canada’s earlier commitment to provide a total of 449 armored vehicles to Ukraine, a pledge made in February 2026. Out of this substantial package, 383 vehicles are confirmed to be the Roshel Senator systems, with the remainder consisting of Light Armored Vehicles produced by General Dynamics. The deployment of the Senators in 2024 was a strategic move to enhance Ukraine’s MRAP capabilities, particularly after an earlier delivery of 200 vehicles by Canada in 2023.
As of December 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have integrated over 2,000 Roshel platforms into their operations, emphasizing the vehicle’s importance in enhancing their operational effectiveness.
The Roshel Senator MRAP is engineered to offer maximum protection and mobility on the battlefield. This 4×4 vehicle, which is modeled after the Ford F-550 truck, measures approximately 6 meters (20 feet) in length and can accommodate up to 10 troops while supporting a payload capacity of up to 2 tons (4,409 pounds). Its NATO-compliant armor protects against a range of threats, including bullets, 155-millimeter artillery shells, multi-directional mines, and explosive ordnance such as charged TNT.
One of the key features of the Senator is its V-shaped hull design, which is specifically crafted to deflect blast waves and shrapnel away from personnel, thus enhancing crew safety during ground explosions. Moreover, the Senator is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission and powered by a robust V8 6.7-liter diesel engine that delivers 330 horsepower. This allows for speeds of up to 120 kilometers (75 miles) per hour and enables a range of approximately 800 kilometers (497 miles), making it a versatile asset for the Ukrainian military.
This latest acquisition of the Roshel Senator vehicles underscores the ongoing international collaboration in support of Ukraine, aimed at fortifying its defense capabilities during a challenging period in its history.
