At just 17 years old, Riddhi Chauhan, a student at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Queens, New York, is already making remarkable strides in her pursuit of a military career. Currently serving as the Battalion Commanding Officer of her school’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) unit, she leads nearly 300 cadets and has set her sights on furthering her education at the prestigious Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS).
Riddhi’s incredible journey began during her freshman year, where she sought to build self-confidence and strengthen her leadership skills. Over the years, her initial motivations evolved into a clear commitment to military service, and her continued dedication has propelled her to the highest student leadership position within the NJROTC program.
Her responsibilities as Battalion Commanding Officer encompass much more than ceremonial duties. Riddhi meticulously plans training activities, mentors junior cadets, and ensures the seamless operation of the vast battalion she oversees. Her schedule is undeniably rigorous—arriving before 7 a.m. four days a week for drill practice before regular classes begin, highlighting the discipline fostered by military leadership training designed to prepare future officers.
