Two Indian Army personnel sustained injuries following an accidental mine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. The incident occurred at a forward post in the Kamalkote area while the soldiers were on duty.
Reports indicate that the blast took place close to the Upper Garh Forward Post of the 8 Rashtriya Rifles (8 RR), which operates under the 12 Infantry Brigade within the Kamalkote sub-sector. The injured personnel have been identified as Dafadar Vijay Kumar, aged 42, and Naik Sharanapa Angari, aged 28, both serving with the 8 RR.
Officials confirmed that the explosion was accidental and not related to cross-border firing or militant activity. The specific circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation.
Following the blast, immediate first aid was administered at the site, and both soldiers were airlifted to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badami Bagh in Srinagar for specialized medical treatment. Their condition has not been disclosed to the public at this time.
Landmines are a common feature in the forward areas along the LoC, implemented as an anti-infiltration measure. Accidental blasts in these regions can occur from shifting mines caused by various factors, including adverse weather conditions, soil movement, or routine operational activities in heavily mined zones.
