The US Army has unveiled a permanent integration facility known as “Reveille Forge” at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, aimed at enhancing the testing and deployment of next-generation defense systems for warfighters. Officially designated as the Integrated Development Environment, this innovative center is set to merge industry and academic advancements with government-owned platforms, with the objective of producing more effective equipment for operational theaters.
Operating under the oversight of the military’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) Fires, Reveille Forge builds upon the experiences gleaned from Operation Jailbreak. This previous initiative successfully brought together over 50 industry partners and engaged 600 participants to connect more than 74 previously isolated capabilities, highlighting the benefits of collaborative efforts.
The establishment of Reveille Forge also complements the Army’s API Marketplace, which was launched in May. This platform facilitates secure sharing of software interfaces among vendors, further emphasizing an integrated approach to defense technology development.
Lt. Gen. Frank Lozano of PAE Fires remarked on the success of Operation Jailbreak, noting, “It proved what’s possible when industry, government, and academia stop working in silos and start working as one team.” This sentiment underscores the collaborative spirit that Reveille Forge aims to foster.
The initiative emphasizes an “Integrate-First Approach,” allowing companies to demonstrate their technologies’ interoperability with army architectures before progressing to capability reviews and formal testing. Systems that meet established benchmarks can move on to further evaluations and potential acquisition activities.
Jeannie Sommer, the director of integrated fires at PAE Fires, commented on the previous delays in system integration, stating, “For too long, system integration began late in the developmental cycle. With Reveille Forge, system integration is the first thing we do, not the last … which may ultimately get new technology into Soldiers’ hands faster.”
This new facility signifies a vital step forward in modernizing the Army’s approach to technology development, ensuring that advancements can be effectively integrated and deployed to enhance the operational capacity of warfighters.
