ST Engineering iDirect has recently secured several defense satellite communications contracts with undisclosed clients located in Asia and Europe, enhancing its position in the global defense sector.
In Southeast Asia, one of the contracts is aimed at boosting a defense ministry’s naval communications. The system designed for this contract features technology that automatically switches terminals between satellite beams, ensuring consistent connectivity between naval vessels and their command centers.
Another contract in the region focuses on providing protected tactical and fixed communications services. This involves the deployment of compact satellite terminals backed by centralized network management and encrypted communication links, facilitating rapid deployment in various operational scenarios.
Moving to Europe, one of the contracts will provide a Western European defense ministry with satellite communications systems configured to be compatible with the US military’s Wideband Global SATCOM network. This integration is expected to enhance secure command-and-control operations, voice communications, and inter-coalition connectivity among military units stationed across widespread locations.
Additionally, a Central European military customer has agreed to implement new satellite communications equipment aimed at improving the reliability of tactical communications, while also minimizing signal interference experienced in previous systems.
In a separate development, a European aerospace and defense company has selected ST Engineering iDirect’s technology for an undisclosed naval program. This initiative will combine shipborne antenna integration with automatic beam switching and multilayer security features, all aimed at bolstering protected maritime communication capabilities.
ST Engineering iDirect, based in the United States, is a subsidiary of Singapore’s ST Engineering, which boasts a comprehensive defense portfolio that extends beyond satellite networks to encompass naval platforms, autonomous systems, and various military technologies.
In recent developments, ST Engineering unveiled the RSS Valour, the second of six Multi-Role Combat Vessels being constructed for the Republic of Singapore Navy. These vessels are scheduled to enter service in 2028 and are designed to function as command platforms that can effectively coordinate airborne, surface, and underwater uncrewed operations.
Earlier in the year, ST Engineering also entered into a partnership with US-based Shield AI to explore the potential integration of Hivemind autonomy software into selected defense platforms. This collaboration aims to assess the role of artificial intelligence in supporting autonomous navigation, onboard decision-making, and mission execution during operational demonstrations.
