Air Force Academy (AFA), the premier training center of the Indian Air Force, is the cradle of training for pilots, ground duty and technical officers of IAF. This academy represents the culmination and fruition of a long felt need to have training for officers of all branches in a single institution. The mission of AFA is to inspire and transform outstanding young men and women into courageous, dynamic, intellectual and cultured young Air Warriors; motivated to lead one of the leading aerospace forces of the world in service to the nation. The Air Force Academy imparts training to Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches as well as flying training to officers of the Army and Navy.
There are a number of ways to join The Air Force Academy:
1. Through NDA
Young boys who have passed class 12th are eligible to join AFA through NDA. They first spend the three years at NDA and then are shifted to AFA for Stage-I flying training. Through NDA you can join only the flying branch of AFA if you have opted for IAF.
National Defence Academy (NDA) is a national-level defence entrance exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. The exam is conducted to recruit the candidates for the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) and National Defence Academy (NDA). NDA will be conducted twice a year, NDA I on 10th April 2022 and NDA II on September 4th 2022.
Candidates must have a 12th pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or appear in one, of a 10+2 pattern of school education from any state board or equivalent. The age requirement is 16 ½ to 19 ½ years.

2. Through CDSE
Male graduates can apply for the flying branch through CDSE Exam held twice a year by UPSC.
UPSC conducts the CDS exam biannually for recruitment of officer cadre in Indian Air Force. candidates can enter the Flying branch through the Air Force Academy where shortlisted candidates are trained as a Fighter pilot or a Helicopter pilot or a Transport pilot and are part of various peace and wartime missions.
Candidates must be between 20 to 24 years old with graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level)/BE/B Tech (Four Year Course).

3. Through AFCAT
Through AFCAT, girls and boys can join the flying (SSC), Technical and Ground Duties Course. This exam is held twice a year.

4. Through NCC
As an Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ Certificate holder of the National Cadet Corps, you can apply to the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. Men can join the Air Force Academy to get training in flying branch through this mode of entry and will be given a Permanent Commission.
Aspirants with NCC C certificate can apply for this entry. With NCC Special entry you can only apply for the flying branch of the IAF. 10% seats out of CDSE vacancies for PC and 10% seats out of AFCAT vacancies for SSC. Men & women can join the Air Force through this mode of entry. Permanent Commission offered for men and Short Service Commission for men and women.
Candidates must be 20-24 years with minimum 60% marks in each in Maths & Physics at 10 + 2 level. Graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent or BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
