DG NCC Reviews NCC Training
- Director General NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh visited Agartala, Tripura to review activities of the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation.
- The General officer was briefed by Maj Gen Bhaskar Kalita and group commanders on the myriad activities undertaken by the cadets of all states in the Northeastern Region.
- The General Officer interacted with Minister for Education in Government of Tripura discussed creation of dedicated infrastructure for the NCC, Border Area Expansion Plan, commencement of NCC as elective subject in colleges and need for giving an overall impetus to NCC activities in the State of Tripura.
- The NCC was formed in 1948 (on the recommendation of H. N. Kunzru Committee-1946) and has its roots in British-era uniformed youth entities like University Corps or University Officer Training Corps.
- Currently it has a strength of around 14 lakh cadets from Army, Navy, and Air Force wings.
- The NCC falls under the purview of the Ministry of Defence and is headed by a Director-General of three-star military rank.

NCC/NSS Education in The Curriculum Under NEP
- The National Education Policy 2020, in para 6.17 provides that under the aegis of the MOD, State Governments may encourage opening NCC wings in their secondary and higher secondary schools, including those located in tribal dominated areas.
- Central Board of Secondary Education offers NCC as an optional subject in classes IX-XII in those schools which offer NCC, & it is managed by the Directorate of NCC under the MOD.
- NCC training is also implemented in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti as per the provisions and policy issued by Director-General, NCC, Ministry of Defence.
THE FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF (ENC) VISIT TO WNC
- Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, AVSM, YSM, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command visited Mumbai from 14 to 16 March 2022. On arrival, the Admiral laid the wreath at the Gaurav Stambh, Naval Dockyard (Mumbai) and was presented the Guard of Honour. Thereafter, he called on Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
- The combined Area of Responsibility of the Western & Eastern Naval Commands is about ten times the landmass of India. The two Commanders-in-Chief discussed various issues of operational importance towards enhancing India’s maritime security.
Envoys Of 5 Nations Present Credentials To President Of India
- The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind accepted credentials from Ambassadors/High Commissioners of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Malawi, Canada, the Republic of Indonesia, and the Russian Federation at Rashtrapati Bhavan (March 16, 2022).
- After presentation of credentials, the President interacted with the five envoys separately. He congratulated them on their appointments and emphasized on the warm and friendly relations that India shared with the countries and the multifaceted relationship that India enjoyed with each of them. The President also wished them success in strengthening of bilateral ties and for their well-being and progress and prosperity of the friendly people.
- Through the Ambassadors and the High Commissioners, the President also conveyed his personal regards to their leaderships. The envoys present at the event reiterated their commitment to work closely to strengthen their ties with India.
Poland Wants To Urgently Buy U.S. Reaper Drones
- Poland wants to buy several MQ-9 Reaper drones from the U.S. under a special, accelerated procedure, and is eyeing further procurements at a later date amid rising security concerns three weeks into a Russian invasion of its neighbour Ukraine.
- Simultaneously Poland is pursuing the Zefir programme under which the purchase of MALE-class unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is being negotiated, Platek said, declining to specify which drones might be ordered.
ICG Ship ‘Saksham’ Dedicated to Nation
- Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Saksham’, the fifth in the series of 105 M-Class offshore patrol vessel, has been commissioned on Wednesday in Goa.
- Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar commissioned offshore patrol vessel Indian Coast Guard Ship Saksham into service in Goa.
- The 5th and the last Offshore Patrol Vessel designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard was launched in December 2020. The vessel christened ‘Saksham’ is a part of the indigenous project launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2016.
