A MiG 29K fighter plane was on a regular mission off the coast of Goa when it experienced a technical fault while it was returning to base. The plane went down in the sea. The pilot successfully extracted himself from the aircraft and was found after a speedy search and rescue operation. It has been stated that the pilot is in a stable condition.
A Board of Inquiry (BoI) has been ordered to investigate the cause of the incident: Indian Navy
The Indian Navy is the only organisation in the world that operates MiG-29K fighter aircraft. These aircraft were purchased from Russia along with the ship Admiral Gorshkov, which was later renamed the INS Vikramaditya.
The MiG-29Ks do not have a particularly stellar track record when it comes to safety. The Indian Air Force is now considering the purchase of 25–26 foreign fighter aircraft in order to support operations from the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, which was just recently commissioned in Kochi by the Prime Minister.

All About the Rescue Operation:
When the news of the accident of an Indian Navy MiG-29K aircraft over the sea broke out on Wednesday, two Dornier surveillance aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard were waiting to take off from the Dabolim air station in Goa to join a formation sortie over Karnataka.
The two aircraft were promptly diverted toward the likely crash site on Wednesday after learning of the MiG-29K aircraft’s May Day call over the water, according to Indian Coast Guard officials.
They claimed that the objective was to aid the pilot of the sister service and rescue him as soon as possible.
According to reports, the fighter jet made the emergency contact while flying over the ocean 60 nautical miles from Goa.
“The surveillance planes took off at 8.35 am and made it to the crash site at 8.55 am, which was 20 minutes after takeoff. The pilot was also discovered there in a dinghy, according to the officials, and appeared to be aware “The authorities stated.
According to the officials, one of the Dornier planes made a low descent to 500 feet above sea level to signal its presence to the survivor pilot and reassure him that he has been found and would soon be carried to safety.
A naval ALH Dhruv helicopter was also given the precise location of the survivor, and it also arrived at the scene to pick up the pilot.
The two Dorniers were summoned back after they finished their mission within 40 minutes of being launched, as soon as the helicopter picked up the pilot.
