Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the IAF Heritage Centre and laid down the foundation stone for the Centre for Cyber Ops & Security in Chandigarh on Monday.

The center is expected to attract a large number of visitors from all over the country. Built with the state of the art technology, the IAF’s Heritage Centre exhibits the source of inspiration for future generations and showcases the indomitable spirit of the Indian Air Force. The IAF Heritage Centre is spread over 17,000 square feet this is the first heritage center of the IAF and depicts its role in various wars, including in 1965, 1971 and the Kargil war, and the Balakot air strike through murals and memorabilia.
The heritage center features aircraft models, aero engines, and armaments, notably Gryazev-Shipunov twin-barreled cannons. It features augmented reality, holographic, virtual reality, and electro-mechanical enclosures, as well as interactive kiosks that highlight various aspects of the IAF. Visitors can also gain flight experience by using the center’s flying simulators. The heritage center’s attractions also include five antique airplanes and SAM-III Pechora missiles.
The institution includes a Hindustan Piston Trainer-32 primary flying trainer aircraft on exhibit. It was in service with the Indian Air Force from 1977 till 2009. A single-seat MiG 21 fighter has also been stationed. The center also contains a separate section dedicated to female officers in the IAF for their services. It represents IAF war missions ranging from its role in the 1948 Indo-Pak war to electro-mechanical 3D-dioramas of its most recent actions, such as the Balakot air attack.
An audio-visual exhibition will present the IAF’s voyage through time, tracking its history from inception to the present, as well as promotional films. There will be a part displaying IAF uniforms, as well as an enclosure holding its ranks and insignia. One part of the walls also depicts various IAF rescue operations. The center also has a souvenir shop and a cafe with a theme.
