As part of the government’s push to enhance the infrastructure for both military and civilian usage, India is creating the world’s tallest tunnel, motorable road, and fighter aircraft base in Eastern Ladakh.
Lt General Rajeev Chaudhry, chief of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), stated that the army will break its own record of creating the highest road at Umlong La Pass two years ago, which will now be eclipsed in the next two working seasons with the construction of the Mig La-Fukche route.
“Umling La is the world’s highest motorable road.” BRO began construction on a road connecting Likru, Mig-La, and Phukche at a height of 19400 feet on August 15. This will aid in the prompt deployment of troops in the event of a catastrophic scenario. “BRO is poised to break its record for the highest motorable road,” he stated.
According to Chaudhry, the world’s highest bi-lane tunnel Sela is also complete and would be dedicated to the country by the Prime Minister very soon. “Prime Minister Modi will soon inaugurate the Sela tunnel.” “It will be the world’s highest and longest bi-lane tunnel,” he stated.
The BRO Chief stated that the military’s road-building organisation will also begin with the Shinku La tunnel, which will connect Manali through Zanskar to Leh and will be the highest, breaking the record of the MiLa tunnel in China. When asked about the Nyoma airfield in Eastern Ladakh, which is only 30 kilometres away by air, he stated that it would be operational by the end of next year.
