What is Agniveervayu?

Agniveervayu is a rank under the Indian Air Force created as part of the Government of Indiaโ€™s Agnipath Scheme, aimed at giving Indian youth the chance to serve in the Air Force, gain military training, and build skills over a four-year term. The selection is merit-based and transparent.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility)

Age & Status

  • Unmarried Indian citizens (male & female).
  • Born between 01 January 2005 and 01 July 2009 (both dates inclusive).

Educational Qualifications

  • Science Stream: Passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and English with at least 50 % overall and 50 % in English;
    OR passed a 3-year engineering diploma in recognised fields with 50 % overall and 50 % in English.
  • Other Streams: Passed 10+2 in any stream with 50 % overall and 50 % in English;
    OR passed a 2-year vocational course with appropriate marks.

Candidates eligible under the Science stream may choose to appear in both the Science and the Other than Science subjects in one sitting.

Selection Procedure

The recruitment involves a three-phase process:

  1. STAR Phase-I: Online written test covering subjects relevant to the chosen stream.
  2. STAR Phase-II: Physical Fitness Test and Adaptability Tests.
  3. STAR Phase-III: Medical Fitness Examination.

Medical and Physical Standards

Applicants must meet specific physical and medical requirements including: minimum height, proportionate weight, hearing standards, dental fitness, and eyesight criteria. Strict norms are applied for general health, drug use, tattoos, and gender criteria.

Service Terms

  • Engagement Period: Four years under the Air Force Act, 1950.
  • Post-Service Option: Based on performance and organisational requirement, up to 25 % of each intake may be considered for enrolment into the regular cadre.
  • Duties: Agniveervayu are liable to be assigned duties as per organisational needs.

Pay and Benefits

  • A fixed monthly Agniveer package with annual increments.
  • Risk & hardship allowances, dress and travel allowances, and accommodation and ration facilities as applicable.
  • Seva Nidhi Package: A terminal benefit on completion of the four-year term, including contributions from the government.
