The Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal recently welcomed 95 cadets from the 1 Telangana Air Squadron of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) for a comprehensive 13-day attachment training program. This initiative provides cadets with a unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience of life within the Indian Air Force (IAF). Conducted biannually in June and October, the program aims to immerse participants in aspects of military aviation, discipline, and leadership development.
The training began with an impressive Combined Graduation Parade (CGP), which featured a dynamic flypast that showcased the advanced capabilities of IAF aircraft. This aerial display not only highlighted the precision and skill of the IAF but also served as an inspiring moment for the cadets, motivating them to explore potential careers in the armed forces.
Founded in 1969, the AFA stands as a premier institution for training IAF personnel, successfully preparing over 2,000 officers each year for operation of advanced aircraft such as the Rafale and Tejas fighter jets. Notably, the academy made strides in inclusivity by inducting women cadets in 1993, underscoring its commitment to excellence and diversity in defense education.
Situated on a sprawling 7,050 acres just 25 kilometers from Hyderabad, the academy plays a pivotal role in India’s pilot training landscape. Its collaboration with the NCC harkens back to the 1955 reorganization of Andhra Pradesh NCC units, continuing a legacy that has seen Telangana’s NCC units gain national recognition, including being awarded the Prime Minister’s Banner in 2021 for their exceptional performance.
This training program is significant not only for its role in shaping future leaders of the defense forces but also for reinforcing civil-military ties. For the participating cadets, the experience is a crucial step in their personal and professional development, embodying the enduring values of service, discipline, and national pride.
