On February 1, 2023, Air Marshal AP Singh PVSM AVSM took over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS). On his first day as VCAS, he laid a wreath at the National War Memorial to honor Armed Forces personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. He was then marked with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Air Headquarters (Vayu Bhavan).
The Air Marshal, a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, was commissioned into the Indian Air Force’s Fighter Stream on December 21, 1984. The Air Officer has over 5000 hours of flying experience on various fixed and rotary-wing aircraft and is a Qualified Flying Instructor and Experimental Test Pilot.
During his career, the officer has commanded a frontline air base and an operational fighter squadron. He led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team as a test pilot in Moscow, Russia. He was also the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, in charge of the Light Combat Aircraft’s flight testing (Tejas). He has served as Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. He was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command prior to his current position.
The Air Marshal has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. He succeeded Air Marshal Sandeep Singh, who retired on January 31, 2023, after more than 39 years of distinguished service.
On assuming the office of Vice Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal AP Singh paid tributes to soldiers who lost life in the line of duty at the National War Memorial.
