Air Marshal MS Sridhar, the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical), recently visited the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), where he engaged in discussions with Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the ENC. The primary objective of this high-level meeting was to address various issues of mutual concern, particularly emphasizing the enhancement of strategic medical facilities within the Command to improve tri-service medical coordination and operational readiness.
The dialogue between the two senior officers focused on crucial aspects, including the development of strategic medical infrastructure intended to bolster joint operations, and the medical readiness essential for responding to both combat and non-combat emergencies. This includes a thorough preparedness plan for scenarios such as radiation emergencies and mass casualty incidents. They also explored ways to enhance the interoperability of medical services across the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force within the Integrated Defence Staff framework.
A significant highlight of Air Marshal Sridhar’s visit was a live radiation emergency casualty evacuation drill at INHS Kalyani. This demonstration illustrated the Navy’s capability to swiftly address radiation hazards, whether during peacetime or in combat situations. The drill showcased the implementation of standardized medical protocols for managing radiation exposure, ensuring effective casualty evacuation and decontamination procedures. It also emphasized the seamless coordination required between medical teams, emergency responders, and naval operational units.
In addition to these discussions, Air Marshal Sridhar toured several pivotal naval establishments in Visakhapatnam, gaining valuable insights into the unique roles and responsibilities of various naval units operating under the ENC. He observed ongoing operational activities that contribute not only to maritime security but also to humanitarian missions, reinforcing the integrated approach to medical support—a critical aspect, especially in high-risk maritime environments.
