This closure, which began early Saturday morning, will remain effective until 5:29 AM on May 15, as outlined in a government announcement.
The list of affected airports includes Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai. Many of these sites are dual-use facilities or situated close to sensitive military installations and international borders, heightening security concerns.
The decision follows the escalation of military readiness associated with Operation Sindoor, part of India’s ongoing response to recent terrorist incidents. Increased aerial surveillance and defense deployments throughout the region have been initiated as part of this operation. In light of these developments, the government has recommended that airlines and operators consider alternative flight paths and comply with updated air traffic directives to mitigate disruption for travelers.
While Delhi Airport remains operational, it issued a separate advisory early in the morning indicating that although regular services are ongoing, potential disruptions may occur due to intensified security measures and evolving airspace conditions. Passengers departing from Delhi have been urged to arrive earlier than usual, travel with minimal luggage, and prepare for extended security checks.
Travelers have been encouraged to verify their flight schedules directly with airlines or via the official Delhi Airport website. Authorities have stressed the importance of relying exclusively on verified information and have cautioned against disseminating unconfirmed reports circulating on social media.
