Jai Hind future warriors today we are going to discuss about the new uniforms of the Indian Army. Most of the information is not made official yet, so the blog contains data from trusted sources and reports.

• As per reports Indian Army is getting a “makeover of sorts” with a new combat uniform from 2022.
• Formally know as camouflage or battle dress uniform(BDU), they are standard uniform for combat operations.
• They will be showcased for first time during Army Day parade on January 15, 2022.
• The new combat uniform has been finalized after consultations with National Institute of Fashion Technology.

The army had been planning to change the pattern as well as the material used in the uniform. This was done to make it easy and comfortable to be worn by men and women in the Army.

Characteristics:

• The new camouflage fatigues will have “digital disruptive pattern”.
• New uniform will be lighter and climate friendly and suitable for the terrains in which the forces operate
• The new combat uniform will be  be a mix of colours including olive and brown to blend in with the background.
• The shirts will not be tucked into trouser in new combat uniform
• It’s unclear as of now whether the stars, badges and accoutrements worn by officers on shoulders and collar tabs will be blackened for better camouflage.
• The shoulder stripes — denoting rank — could also be moved to the front buttons, sources said adding it is a pattern followed by other major armies also.

Possible reasons for change in combat uniform:

• According to an army official the overall aim is to have a combat dress made of “lighter but sturdy material”, which will be suitable for both summer and winters
• The new combat uniform will be more durable and provide better camouflage.

Note: It has been implemented after studying uniforms worn by major armies across the world.

Now talking about Change in Regular Uniform of the Indian Army:

• The army is planning on different coloured shirts and pants for the new uniform
• Change in uniform comes amid Defence Ministry’s directive that prohibits other security personnel from wearing fatigues similar to the army.
• In 2020 Army had requested the Centre to issue guidelines against widespread use its uniform by various armed police forces, state police and even insurgents in the northeast.
• Along with this being a security concern, it also raised false alarms among the common public that Army has been called to the streets.

Note: Incidentally Indian Navy introduced a new camouflage uniform in 2020.
